Octave…
It is a well known fact that he north eastern
states in India are rich in terms of cultural _expressions but the
rest of India is hardly exposed to their culture, tradition and
artistic _expressions. With the idea of bringing the cultures of
North East India to the attention of people in other states, Octave
started exhibiting a variety of artistic flavours showcasing the
rich tapestry of art, craft, music, food and costumes to bridge the
gap among artistes and artisans in the north eastern part of India.
The festival is specially designed to introduce the cultural
heritage all the eight States - Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh,
Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Sikkim to other parts of
the country, hence the name Octave Octave 2006,the first ever octave, conducted in Delhi turned out to be a unique experience for the rest of India. Octave is essentially an extended version of the cultural platform initiated by North eastern cultural Zonal centre but It was the honourable prime minister of India, Dr Manmohan singh who launched an event of this magnitude which could aptly be termed a contribution for the north east. Despite its relatively recent origin Octave has developed in to a Major Cultural exchange programme initiated by the department of culture, Govt of India. Since its inception staring its journey at New Delhi followed by Hyderabad in its second year, Octave is now entering its third year. This time around Kerala has the special privilege of hosting this event.
