 Welcome to Octave 2008

………..A cultural extravaganza of North East

It is a well known fact that the North Eastern states in India are rich in terms of cultural _expressions but the rest of India is hardly exposed to their culture, tradition and artistic _expressions. With the objective of introducing the  cultural heritage all the eight States of Norh East namely Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Sikkim to other parts of the country, Octave was started in 2006 and is being celebrated every year as a major cultural exchange program  by the Department of culture, Govt of India. This year,  Kerala has the special privilege of hosting Octave 2008( popularized as Astagam 2008 in Malayalam) from  16 th  to 23rd   February at Nishaganthi  stadium in  Kanakakunnu premises, Thiruvananthapuram.

South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur being the nodal agency, started various preparatory arrangements in coordination with North East and Eastern Zonal Cultural Centres, Ministry  of Culture , Govt of Kerala and with organizations like Central and Kerala state Sangeetha Nataka Akademy, Lalith Kala Acadmy and  Sahitya Academies. In addition to showcasing  10 Dance forms sponsored by North East Zonal Cultural Centre and 9 Dance forms sponsored by  Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, events related to Art, Music, Food show  from the NE will also be taken up in capital city, Thiruvananthapuram  while the painting exhibition, organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi will be held at Kochin  State Gallery. There would also be workshops/seminars and screening of films from the North-Eastern states and Kerala state  at Trissur. Theatre performances of North East arranged by Sangeetah Natak Academy, New Delhi and combining Kerala cultural events with North East Evens is the highlight of Octave 2008.
